Hydrodynamic Limit of Brownian Particles Interacting with Short- and Long-Range Forces

چکیده
We investigate the time evolution of a model system of interacting particles moving in a d-dimensional torus. The microscopic dynamics is first order in time with velocities set equal to the negative gradient of a potential energy term 9 plus independent Brownian motions: 9 is the sum of pair potentials, V(r)+#J(#r); the second term has the form of a Kac potential with inverse range #. Using diffusive hydrodynamic scaling (spatial scale #, temporal scale #) we obtain, in the limit # a 0, a diffusive-type integrodifferential equation describing the time evolution of the macroscopic density profile.

Influence of hydrodynamic interactions on the dynamics of long-range interacting colloidal particles
– We study the influence of hydrodynamic interactions on the self-diffusion of super-paramagnetic colloidal particles suspended in water. The colloids interact via repulsive dipolar forces due to an applied magnetic field, and their motion is effectively confined to two dimensions. By comparing experimental data with the results from extensive computer simulations, where the water flow fields a...
متن کاملCoarse Grained Simulations of a Small Peptide: Effects of Finite Damping and Hydrodynamic Interactions
In the coarse grained Brownian Dynamics simulation method the many solvent molecules are replaced by random thermal kicks and an effective friction acting on the particles of interest. For Brownian Dynamics the friction has to be so strong that the particles’ velocities are damped much faster than the duration of an integration timestep. Here we show that this conceptual limit can be dropped wi...
متن کاملDiscontinuous shear thickening in Brownian suspensions by dynamic simulation.
Dynamic particle-scale numerical simulations are used to show that the shear thickening observed in dense colloidal, or Brownian, suspensions is of a similar nature to that observed in noncolloidal suspensions, i.e., a stress-induced transition from a flow of lubricated near-contacting particles to a flow of a frictionally contacting network of particles. Abrupt (or discontinuous) shear thicken...
متن کاملHydrodynamic fluctuations in confined particle-laden fluids.
We address the collective dynamics of non-Brownian particles cruising in a confined microfluidic geometry and provide a comprehensive characterization of their spatiotemporal density fluctuations. We show that density excitations freely propagate at all scales, and in all directions even though the particles are neither affected by potential forces nor by inertia. We introduce a kinetic theory ...
متن کاملSingle particle motion in colloidal dispersions: a simple model for active and nonlinear microrheology
The motion of a single Brownian probe particle subjected to a constant external body force and immersed in a dispersion of colloidal particles is studied with a view to providing a simple model for particle tracking microrheology experiments in the active and nonlinear regime. The non-equilibrium configuration of particles induced by the motion of the probe is calculated to first order in the v...
